Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD)
One of the most common cancers in the UK is Breast Cancer and Cancer Research UK state approximately 20% of breast cancer patients develop secondary lymphoedema.
Lymphoedema is swelling caused by fluid retention. The most common areas for Lymphoedema to occur are within the arms and legs where the fluid has not drained into the lymphatic system which may have been caused by blockages, disease or damage. A healthy lymphatic system helps disperse the toxins and waste throughout the body
What is Secondary Lymphoedema? This is caused by damage to the lymph vessels or nodes this could include, cancer or radiation treatments, an infection in the lymph nodes or removal of lymph nodes, parasites, or injury
What is Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) and how can it help? This technique was designed following on from successful research and clinical practice of working with patients suffering from cancer, many associated with breast cancer who then consequently suffered with secondary lymphoedema. Many patients noted their secondary lymphoedema included swollen arms and armpits and painful shoulders.

Working on stimulating the spinal reflexes on the foot to identify nerve reflexes that may be out of balance. Each vertebrae has a nerve root which links to specific organs and muscles within the body. If you are feeling some sensitivity in your spine but don’t generally have back problems this could be relating to other reflexes that are out of sync.
Spinal reflexology can assist in correcting imbalances in parts of your organs and systems.
This particular treatment will entail working the spinal reflexes where we will find areas that are more sensitive, this corresponds to an area within the body that will also be worked on to help alleviate the areas of congestion. A variety of different techniques and pressures are used and this will be unique to each client.
If you have just started to try and conceive or have been trying for a while reflexology may be able to support you and your partner, both physically and emotionally.
If however you have been provided with a diagnoses as to the reason of not being able to conceive, you may have been offered medical treatment which you most probably would like to proceed with. However if no diagnoses has been forthcoming or you would prefer to go down a more natural path then pre-pregnancy reflexology could assist you.
This type of treatment will provide you with relaxation and stress reduction. There has been some evidence that stress may affect fertility. Cortisol, a hormone released on response to stress, can cause the release of an inhibiting hormone that reduces the production of follicle stimulating hormone and luteinising hormone. The hormones are integral to the release of the egg and the implantation of the embryo after fertilisation. If you are stressed this may have an impact on the chances to conceive.
This treatment will involve carrying out a reflexology treatment whilst stimulating your hormones several times throughout the routine.
